Valentia to stand at Cornerstone Stud

Astute Bloodstock is thrilled to announce the acquisition of VALENCIA in association with Cornerstone Stud.

A son of champion sire FASTNET ROCK, he was a terrific winner of the Gr.2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old, a race previously won by the likes of SNITZEL, CHOISIR and another son of FASTNET ROCK, the young boom sire HINCHINBROOK.

An outstandingly powerful looking individual, VALENTIA was a Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale topper when fetching $1.35 million as a yearling in 2013, the highest price achieved at the sale over the previous five years.

VALENTIA was a dual winner at two and is one of only six Group winning two-year-old colts by FASTNET ROCK.

Upon his retirement, trainer Gai Waterhouse remarked:

“Valentia is arguably the best looking colt ever seen at Tulloch Lodge.”

“He won the Skyline Stakes Group Two very comfortably and he was my number one chance in the Golden Slipper.”

“Sadly a tendon injury restrained him from fulfilling the great three-year-old career that he was destined for.”

As a three-year-old VALENTIA placed 3rd in the Gr.3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) when he was beaten less than half a length by Scissor Kick despite striking interference and conceding 4.5kgs.

In the Gr.2 Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) he also placed 3rd behind Shooting to Win, a horse he had previously beaten in the Up And Coming Stakes.

Coming from a high-class speed family, VALENTIA is out of Smart Company, a winning full-sister to dual Group One winning sprinter SUPER ELEGANT (by Mister C).

Astute Bloodstock’s Louis Le Metayer was buoyant in his appraisal of VALENTIA saying, “Valentia is superb athlete with all the attributes to become a successful stallion and I am delighted to be involved.”

VALENTIA will stand at a fee of $11,000 inc. GST in his first year at Cornerstone Stud. Please call Ross Hatton or Sam Hayes on (08) 8561 0000

Last Saturday was a special day for Astute Bloodstock given that each of our 5 runners rose to the occasion and won convincingly at Royal Randwick and Flemington. Our priority at work is to select and purchase future elite racehorses so it was a thrill to see 3 winning at Gr.2 level.
